Where to park in Florence? Which car park is closest to the centre? What about ZTL zones? Read the article to find out.

When I was planning my trip to Florence, the most challenging part was finding parking.

There are several. But there are a few hooks to work out before you head into the centre of Florence:

  • Some of the parking lots are small.
  • Others you’re only allowed to enter with a card.
  • Inside Florence, there are so-called ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone) zones, so both you can only get in at certain times and you need to keep an eye on your vehicle’s emissions
  • Currently, as of 2023, vehicles that only meet Euro 1 and Euro 2 standards are not allowed to enter

So you need to look at the ZTL map. Do not rely on Google Maps, Waze and similar navigation systems. You need to plan your route in advance.

Parking

The car park I used was Firenze Parcheggi Spa parcheggio Parterre. This car park is underground, has lots of spaces, is close to the main roads so you don’t have to zigzag around the city, through one-way streets and various alleyways, and is relatively close to the centre. The parking spaces are big enough. I recommend looking which way you enter the parking lot, as it’s easy to miss the entrance.

The second car park I found, but it is full quite early, so you need to leave early, is Piazzale Michelangelo. This car park is a little further away from the centre than the first one mentioned. This parking lot is outdoors.
