Laghi di Fusine are two lakes below Mount Mangart (2,677 m) in the Julian Alps, around which a beautiful trail leads.

Route

The road around the lakes is more or less flat. In places there are sections where you have to cross quite large roots. Overall, however, the walk is suitable for less physically fit individuals. You can easily manage the route with children and your dog, which must be on a leash.

I personally recommend arriving in the morning, around 8-9 a.m. Around 12:00 there were already quite a few people, the restaurants were noisy and the trails were getting crowded.

The walking route around the lakes took me about 2-3 hours.

Parking

If you are planning to go to the lakes by car or motorbike, then you will be interested in parking.

There are two car parks on the way up the road which are free.

The non-paid parking lots are located outside the park entrance gate.

The first is the Parcheggio pubblico. The walk from this car park to the first lake along the path along the road takes about 1 hour.

A second free car park is located a little higher up by the closed restaurant. This car park is a little closer than the first one mentioned and the walk up to the first lake takes about 30 minutes. Just past the entrance to the resort, there is a walking trail along the right side of the road.

Parking at the lake is paid and there is plenty of space.

Lago di Fusine Inferior (Laghi di Fusine Inferiore)

Lago di Fusine Inferiore is the lower lake. I found this lake nicer and cleaner than the upper lake.

Lago di Fusine Superior (Laghi di Fusine Superiore)

Lago di Fusine Superiore is the upper lake. It is connected to the lower lake by a trail.

Refreshments

Refreshments at the lake are located in two places:

  • At the first lake at the bottom
  • At the second lake by the car park

The prices in the restaurants are not overpriced in my opinion and I definitely recommend having a coffee and a dessert overlooking the lake 🍰.
