Are you looking for an island in the Maldives where peace, quiet, clean facilities, good food and drink and a bit of cultural activities will be your primary concerns? The Summer Island Maldives resort may be just the place for you.

Azure blue lagoons, ample space for diving and calm sailing in the water

The whole island is surrounded by a lagoon, which has beautifully clean, clear and warm water.

On the side of the restaurant, the depth is 1 to 1.5 metres after 30 metres from the shore. This depth lasts until the end of the lagoon. To the right of the restaurant, by the family villas, the depth is greater and is suitable for diving. It is about 2 metres just beyond the end of the lagoon (about 15 metres from the shore) and gets bigger with every metre from the shore. There is quite a bit of room for diving here.

On the side by the beach villas (opposite side from the restaurant), the depth is 0.5 meters a good 40 meters from the beach. It’s a great place to sit undisturbed and roll in the water. At the end of this lagoon you can already dive.

At the villas in the water, the depth is about 2 meters. Diving here is made more interesting by the schools of fish, which are countless.

Beautiful and clean beaches

Summer Island has beautiful sandy beaches all around the perimeter of the island. There are remnants of coral on the beaches, but you can more or less walk around the island without shoes. No need for water shoes either.

Excellent food and drink

Summer Island has 2 restaurants and 2 bars. You will get access depending on which offer you have chosen for your stay. Either way, both restaurants are the size of a volleyball court.

The food menu changes every day and is really wide. Fish, beef, pork and chicken dishes are always available. There are often fried dishes but also dishes for vegetarians and vegans. There is also always a plethora of fruit, vegetables and desserts.

I recommend not to skimp on food. First of all, food and drinks are quite expensive for your own money, and secondly, with full board you can go for a soft drink at any time of the day from about 8:00 to 22:00, but also a great drink🍹. It seems unnecessary, but at 50 degrees Celsius in the shade it’s a great thing, and to have a drink other than water all over occasionally (and that you drink a lot of it in the heat) is great.

If you purchase full board, you will also have an afternoon snack, which is an absolutely wonderful experience. A coffee, a book, a drink and some dessert at sunset is just a great way to end the day.

Swimming pool next to the bar

The island has a swimming pool with sun loungers and a relaxation area, located right next to the bar. There’s nothing better in the evening (or even during the day) than grabbing a book, a good drink and sitting in the pool. In the evening, the pool has a beautiful view of the sunset.

Diving trips, paddleboard rental, diving courses, gym, library, and much more

To spice things up on the island, you can rent a paddleboard, go scuba diving on the coral reef to see the turtles or pay for a ride on a water tubing. If you have a scuba diving course, you can go diving with the locals at greater depths to the coral.

Treadmills, exercise bikes and weight machines are available in the gym.

Nightlife

You won’t be bored on Summer Island even in the evening. There is always some kind of program, such as live music, dance performances, fire shows, dances, etc.

When nothing is on the agenda, the bar offers a pleasant seating area, a chance to play darts, football and chess.There is also a TV at the bar, which usually has a sports channel on.

Accommodation options

As far as accommodation is concerned, there is a choice of a water villa, a beach villa on the beach or a family villa. You can’t go wrong with either. Beach villas are about 20 meters from the beach. They are aligned on one side of the island and there is about 5 meters of alley space between them. The villas also have open showers so you “shower in the open”. The family villas are located to the right of the restaurant and are also approx 20 metres from the beach.

For the villas in the water, it’s good to keep in mind that if there are big waves, they sometimes hit the support legs of the villas and can wake someone up.

Far enough away from the city of Male

The resort is located on a small island, which is about 45 Km away from the city of Male (it is some 50 minutes by speed boat or 15 minutes by plane).

The surrounding islands are also far enough away from Summer Island that nothing blocks your view of the endless ocean.
