If you visit Stirling, you will surely notice the tall tower on the hill. That impressive tower is the Wallace Monument – a tower built in honor of the national hero William Wallace. This monument is a symbol of courage, freedom, and also a popular tourist destination offering magnificent views, fascinating exhibitions, and a unique insight into Scottish history.

You can reach the tower by a path from the parking lot. The path goes uphill gently. Along the way, there are various explanations and information about the monument.

The tower itself is divided into three floors, and at its top is an observation deck.

On the individual floors, there are displays of weapons, projected videos, and information about the battle.

The Wallace Monument stands near the site of the famous Battle of Stirling Bridge, which took place on September 11, 1297. In this battle, William Wallace, along with Andrew de Moray, led the Scottish forces against the English army—and won thanks to clever tactics and the use of the terrain by the bridge over the River Forth.

The Battle of Stirling Bridge is considered one of the most important Scottish victories during the Wars of Independence. This event made Wallace a national hero, and that is why a monument was dedicated to him several centuries later – The National Wallace Monument.

On one floor, you can even create your own coat of arms and take a photo with it at the end.

I definitely recommend going all the way to the top of the tower, where you will find a beautiful view of the surrounding area and also the site of the Battle of Stirling Bridge.

From the Wallace Monument, there is also a beautiful view of Stirling Castle.
